It is easy to become discouraged at certain times in life. Perhaps it is an illness, job situation, finances, or many other reasons. The Bible gives examples of the Lord’s servants who became discouraged such as Moses (Num. 11:10-15) and Joshua (Joshua 7:6-11). While discouragement is part of life, God’s Word is always there to help remind us how to overcome it.
In Jeremiah 15, Jeremiah is struggling with a challenging time in his ministry and cries out to the Lord (ver.15-18). The Lord’s response in verses 19-20 was for Jeremiah to refocus on Him rather than his problems. In turn, the Lord would fulfill all the promises that He had previously made to him (see Jeremiah 1:8, 18-19).
“The antidote for the prophet's earlier 'Woe is me' was the Lord's 'I am with thee'. No better word could ever be given by God to one of His servants, anywhere or anytime!”[1]
The next time you become discouraged, refocus on the Lord and the promises found in His Word. You will then be reminded that the Lord is with you and will always be faithful in keeping His promises.
Blessings,
Pastor Steven
