A recent survey indicates that technology is making us more impatient. The average time it took for people to become frustrated with their TV or computer when it was not working correctly was 22 seconds.[1] Being impatient can cause many short and long-term consequences.
In 1 Samuel 13, Saul’s earlier success was short-lived because he became impatient and took matters into his own hands. Previously in 1 Samuel 10:8, Samuel had instructed Saul to wait on him for seven days in Gilgal. Samuel would then come and make the sacrifices that were an exclusive priestly duty.
Rather than wait on Samuel, Saul decided to make the offerings himself. Had Saul simply waited a little longer, he could have avoided having to deal with the lifelong consequences. Saul learned the hard way that obedience is better than sacrifice (1 Samuel 15:22).
“Saul lost his kingdom for want of two or three hours' patience.”[2]
While the world may be growing more impatient, the follower of Jesus needs to grow in being patient. If you struggle in this area, why not ask the Lord for help today.
“Rest in the LORD and wait patiently for Him.” Psalm 37:7
